The PoNS® Device

The PoNS device is an innovative technology to help individuals with chronic neurological symptoms of disease or trauma. It includes a controller and mouthpiece that delivers mild stimulation to the surface of the tongue. This stimulation triggers a flow of neural impulses to the brain structures that control motor function. Use of the device while engaging in movement and coordination tasks promotes neuromodulation and neuroplasticity, activating brain pathways to improve function.

PoNS used in conjunction with supervised therapeutic exercises is referred to as PoNS Therapy™.

The Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator (PoNS®) is an authorized medical device commercially available in the US for the treatment of gait deficit due to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and in Canada for the treatment of balance deficit due to mild to moderate Traumatic Brain Injury, gait deficit due to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and gait deficit due to stroke.

PoNS® is authorized in Australia (AUS TGA) for use as an adjunct to a therapeutic exercise program to improve balance and gait. It is not yet commercially available.
